How to listen to any web article, free

November 1, 2026 · 3 min read

Some articles are easier heard than read: on a walk, in the kitchen, or when your eyes are done for the day. imread reads any article aloud in your browser, phone or computer, with nothing to install.

Open the example, then press Listen →

Three steps

  1. Copy the article's link and paste it on imread. The menus, ads and pop-ups are gone; the article is left.
  2. Press Listen. A natural Microsoft voice starts reading, and the sentence it is on is lit as it goes.
  3. Pick the voice, the speed and the volume that suit you. imread remembers them for next time.

Jump around without losing your place

Double-tap any sentence and the voice reads from there. A single tap never moves it, so you can scroll and read along without starting over by accident.

In another language

Translate the article into one of ten languages first, and Listen reads the translation. It works for text you paste too: a PDF, an email or a document, with lines a PDF broke mid-sentence joined again.

Keep your place on every device

Sign in with Google to save the article to your Library. Open it later on your phone and it opens where you stopped on your laptop, with your voice and speed settings.

What leaves your browser

To read aloud, imread passes the article's text to Microsoft's Edge speech service; if that service is unavailable, your device's own voice reads instead. The privacy page has the full list.
