Reading needs no account
A page you open is fetched, cleaned and sent back to your browser; url2text doesn't keep it. Text you paste stays in your browser tab. To read aloud and translate, url2text sends the article's text to Microsoft's Edge services, and translating sends its title and short lines to Zhipu's AI models (Agnes's when Zhipu's fail). Microsoft Clarity records taps, scrolling and the address of the page you read, with all page text and pictures hidden.
If you sign in
Signing in with Google is optional. It adds a Library, and url2text then keeps:
- your name, email address and profile picture, as Google shares them, and Google's ID for your account;
- for each article you save: its link, its title, its site, where you stopped and when you last read it (never its text);
- your reading settings: voice, speed, volume and translation language;
- a sign-in session per device, which ends after 30 days unused or when you sign out.
These are used only to show your Library and settings on your devices. They are never sold, shared for advertising or used to train AI models. They are stored with Netlify, which hosts url2text.
Deleting your data
Remove an article from your Library at any time. To delete everything, open your Library and choose Delete account: your account, sessions, saved articles and settings are deleted at once. You can also revoke url2text's access in your Google Account settings.
Age
Accounts are for people 13 or older.
