# imread

Paste a link and get the clean article text without menus, ads or clutter. Copy it as plain text or Markdown in one click. Free, no sign-up needed.

Paste a link at https://imread.org to read a page's main text, copy it as plain text or Markdown, listen to it, or translate it. Pasted plain text can be listened to or translated the same way (in the browser only; the API takes links).

- MCP server (Streamable HTTP, no auth): https://imread.org/api/mcp; setup for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and Claude: https://imread.org/mcp
- OpenAPI description: https://imread.org/openapi.json
- Agent skill: https://imread.org/.well-known/agent-skills/imread/SKILL.md

## Guides

- [Give Claude, Cursor and Codex clean web pages with MCP](https://imread.org/blog/give-ai-agents-clean-web-pages-mcp): Connect imread's free MCP server to Claude Code, Claude, Cursor, VS Code or Codex, so your agent reads the article on a page instead of its menus, scripts and ads.
- [How to listen to any web article, free](https://imread.org/blog/listen-to-any-article): Turn any article into audio in your browser: paste the link, press Listen, and follow each sentence as a natural voice reads it. No app, no sign-up.
- [Copy any web page as clean Markdown for ChatGPT, notes and docs](https://imread.org/blog/web-page-to-markdown): Get a web page's article as Markdown, with headings, lists, tables, links and code, in one click, or as plain text that pastes cleanly into a chat, a prompt or a spreadsheet.

## Questions

### Which pages work best?

Articles, blog posts, news stories, documentation and wiki pages. Pages that build their content with JavaScript, sit behind a login, or are mostly images may come back empty.

### What's the difference between Text and Markdown?

Text is clean paragraphs, ready to paste into a document, chat or AI prompt; tables come out as tab-separated rows that paste into a spreadsheet as columns. Markdown keeps headings, lists, tables, links and code blocks.

### Can it read an article aloud or translate it?

Yes. Listen reads the article in a natural Microsoft voice; tap any paragraph to read from there, and pick the voice, speed and volume. Translate turns it into one of ten languages. For both, imread passes the article's text to Microsoft's free Edge services, and Translate also sends the title and short lines (headings, table cells, list items) to Zhipu's AI models (Agnes's when Zhipu's fail); if Microsoft's services are unavailable, Listen uses your device's own voice.

### Can I paste text instead of a link?

Yes. Paste any text, from a PDF, an email or a document, and it shows like an article: Listen reads it aloud and Translate translates it. Lines a PDF broke mid-sentence are joined again, while a poem or an address keeps its lines. The text stays in your browser tab; only Listen and Translate send it out, to Microsoft, Zhipu and Agnes as above.

### Do you store the pages I read?

imread doesn't keep the pages you read: each is fetched, cleaned and sent back to your browser. If you sign in and save an article to your Library, imread keeps its link, title and where you stopped (never its text), with your name, email address and picture from Google, until you remove it or ask for your account to be deleted. Listening and translating send the article's text to Microsoft, and translating sends its short lines to Zhipu (or Agnes), as described above. To see which features help, the site uses Microsoft Clarity: it records taps, scrolling and the address of the page you read, with all page text and pictures hidden, so neither the article nor text you paste reaches it.

### Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit for normal use. Signing in with Google is optional: it adds a Library that keeps saved articles, where you stopped in each, and your voice and translation settings on all your devices.
